How the Diaspora Can Support the Decentralization Initiative

Haiti stands at a critical crossroads, and the need for an out-of-the-box approach to our nation’s development has never been more urgent. For too long, Port-au-Prince has been the hub and epicenter where everything takes shape, leaving the other nine regions marginalized and underdeveloped. The time has come for a shift in focus—a movement towards decentralization that empowers all regions of Haiti equally.

The role of the Haitian diaspora in this movement is pivotal. We are calling on you to join us in slightly distancing from the over-reliance on Port-au-Prince and placing your support behind efforts to rebuild and revitalize the other regions. This strategic approach aims to distribute resources, opportunities, and development more equitably across the country.

Invest in Regional Projects:

Support community-based projects in your region of origin or another region in need. Your investment can fund local businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and infrastructure projects that boost regional development.

Skill and Knowledge Transfer:

Share your expertise and skills by providing training and mentorship to local communities. This can be done through virtual workshops, seminars, or in-person visits.

Advocate for Policy Change:

Use your voice and influence to advocate for policies that support decentralization and regional development. Directly engage Haitian government officials to push for systemic changes that benefit all regions.

Support the Renaissance Stadium Project:

Our first major project under this initiative is the construction of the Renaissance Stadium. This project aims to use soccer as a catalyst for positive change, providing a platform for regional pride and economic development. Your contributions and support for this project will have a lasting impact.

Encourage Others to Join the Movement:

Mobilize fellow diaspora members to join the decentralization effort. Spread the word about the importance of regional development and encourage others to contribute their time, resources, and expertise.
